The Doberman is a dog that comes with a built in high energy level and to watch this breed run has left many owners explaining what they see by describing the gracefulness, speed and beauty to that of a deer.

The Doberman is one of the smartest breeds, known for their uncanny reasoning ability. These qualities combined with the Dobe's deceptive power, exuberance for life, and complex nature and temperament require extra time for early socialization, obedience training, and ample exercise. On the other hand, the Doberman is extremely affectionate and will find a way into the hearts of their owners, like no other breed. The breed is found in a variety of working positions as well as being a great dog for confirmation, obedience, and schutzhound competition.

Dobermans are considered people dogs, showing an extraordinary devotion to their family and owners. A Dobe is happy to settle down inside to share your home, your bed, and your food. We refer to our Dobermans as our children and treat them accordingly. It is also normal for your Doberman to smile, lean on you, bump your hand for more attention, and follow you from room to room. For these reasons they are often referred to as "Velcro" dogs.

The Doberman is likely to be able to destroy most toys suitable for other breeds. In fact, Niko destroyed an "indestructible ball" which was advertised as being able to survive a lion. We find that the "Galileo's" or Nylabone are the most suitable toys for them. Soft toys or balls are strongly discouraged unless under direct supervision, for example, when training your dog.

A Doberman is not a dog that would do well as an outside dog or a kennel dog. A home with a fenced in yard would be the most suitable. We are strong believers against the practice of having "kennel dogs". These are dogs that live the majority of their lives in a kennel with only limited exposure to people and exercise, for the sole purpose of breeding. This is the typical practice of many breeders. They may have a limited number of their dogs in the house, but the majority live in a kennel situation. The reason they do this is so they can have a constant supply of litters being produced all year long. This usually indicates that their sole income is dependent on their ability to constantly produce puppies. I cannot emphasize this point enough, NEVER BUY A PUPPY FROM THIS TYPE OF BREEDER. They are not attempting to better the Doberman breed, they are in it to make money. It is a very cruel environment for the dogs and many end up with medical problems like lick granulomas because of it. They may argue that the dogs receive plenty of attention and exercise, but don't believe them. We absolutely refuse to have our dogs in a kennel, to the point, that we have a house sitter stay here to take care of the dogs. Many times even just to baby-sit for the day if we are going to be gone the entire day & evening.

Thank you for your interest in the Doberman breed and you may call us at any time whether you have purchased a dog from us or not. You will probably need to leave us a message and we will return the call promptly. This is because we are often busy taking care of our dogs, either outside for supervised play or training for an upcoming show.
